Why First Responders and TRT/HRT?

Hello First Responder and everyone else, I am asked all the time why I believe that it is vital that that first responders use TRT and HRT: there are two main reasons. 1) TRT/HRT increases overall quality of life by 20% or more and 2) TRT and HRT helps first responders to be stronger, healthier and to function more optimally and, hence be more effective on the job, experience less accidents and be better firefighters.

I have gotten so used to telling this to first responders that I guess I just never wrote it down. True, I have written a number of excellent articles outlining the many positive reasons why men or women would use TRT or HRT, but no single article outlining why first responders should be using it.

Maybe, I had been thinking, first responders knew this themselves, so why do I have to retell the story? I often I hear from firefighters, police, CHP, EMTs, and even military, how happy and how healthy they feel, and how using TRT or HRT was ultimately been one of the very best decisions of their life, may be other than marrying and having children.

In last month’s newsletter I wrote two summary articles regarding the many benefits of TRT and HRT. Why Should I Use Testosterone Replacement Therapy? and Why Should I Use HRT (Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone) Replacement Therapy? These articles were somewhat of an attempt to deal with this issue. I thought if I simply listed the many benefits of TRT and HRT, I would be doing a great job for those who has no idea that there are both long-term and short-term benefits to TRT and HRT. Then a one of my firefighter patients called me and asked, “How come you never talked about the long-term benefits of replacement therapy before?” I was literally dumbfounded. I thought I had talked about the long-term positive effects of TRT and HRT hundreds of times. I hear it in my head all the time. If anyone asks me, “Why am I such an advocate of replacement therapy I know I think to myself, “because of their long-term amazing health benefits!”

Today the average life expectancy of men is between 75 and 78 years of age with many living to close to 90 years of age. Today’s the life expectancy for a woman is between 80 and 83 years of age with many women living to 95 years of age or older. TRT and HRT is estimated to increase longevity by 20% or greater and significantly increases quality of life in both men and women.

Many scientists now estimate that by the mid-21st century (by 2050, a mere 29 years from now), human life expectancy in the United States will average around 115 years of age.

The question then is at age 115 will you be living in a nursing home or in your own home? Will you be self-sufficient or will you be taken care of by a nursing attendant? Will you have an optimum quality of life or simply be warehoused. Will you be fed and have your diaper changed periodically or on your own, out and about living the life you have chosen to live?

This is the main and most important benefit, right now, at this time, the main gift you can give yourself to ensure your future at 115, the ability to become and be a totally vital man or woman, sentient, successful, self-sufficient, in optimal health and fully functioning.

Can I promise you all of this? Yes! I can. While I cannot entirely promise you will make it to 115¹ years of age, I can promise that if you do less than full on TRT and HRT, your life experience will likely be 20% less than if you choose to use TRT or HRT. Every hormone replacement study that has done where researchers have evaluated statistics regarding overall quality of life with TRT and HRT has demonstrated that both men and women, if they do nothing else, increase their overall quality of life of by at least 20% or more.

In long-term studies we see reduced risk of heart attack and stroke, reduce risk of many types of cancers. With being on TRT/HRT the much more extensive and detailed monitoring picks up cancers that TRT or HRT doesn’t reduce the risk of earlier and before they can add to the individual’s morbidity and mortality rate (rate of illness and death) hence being on TRT/HRT acts to offer closer medical follow up, dietary control and hence quality of life and longevity.

In the short run, TRT and HRT creates a clearer mind, greater strength, faster reaction time, more capable actions and results and hence less accidents, less injuries and once again a higher quality of life in the now moment.

HRT and TRT without question will improve the overall quality of your life. It will support your living longer, being healthier, and enjoying life more. If you are lucky to find a physician who actually knows what he or she is doing you can then count on them to work with you in a prevention mode and hence continue to increase your overall quality of life even greater than TRT or HRT itself does. The two of you will find life threatening problems sooner, eliminate them, prevent them, cure them and avoid them. Most TRT/HRT doctors just do hormone therapy and they do not do either prevention or healing. Maybe they do TRT and HRT well but on its own, it can only to can increase your overall well-being by 20%.
